My kids have grown up, this is a light-hearted look at what I have observed (and participated in a thousand years ago) when 2 people develop the beginning of feelings.

When 2 people like each other it is pretty obvious to discernible people. However if the wrong moves are made it will result in one of the players putting their running shoes on and hightailing it for the horizon wondering what it was that sparked that small amount of attraction that briefly bloomed. In order to fan the flames of attraction into something more worthy keep reading.

Every boy and every girl who desires the affections of another needs to at some point become unobtanium. What is unobtanium? it is the rare ability to master the feelings of wanting to be desired by the object of your affection and instead maintain a cool disposition of amiable friendliness that in no way can be confused with a desperate need to be in the constant presence of the person who’s affections are desired.  If one of the people possesses unobtanium there desirability factor increases exponentially in the eyes of the other person. After all who wants what can be easily grasped? For guys especially the element of the chase is particularly attractive and the girl who is a challenge can become highly desired. Should you chase her? Well that a subject for another time and not the scope of this brief discussion.

With every relationship there is a tension between wanting,  being needed and desiring the other person. If this tension is maintained appropriately the young prospective couple are interested in each other long  enough to develop the basis of a friendship and proceed to the beginnings of what can be described as love. There are many things that are needed still to bring love to full bloom but that is also the subject of another time.

Noneedium is what is created in a person who initially was attracted to somebody but the person they liked chases them to hard. It is produced by that person needing to be in the presence of the beloved. They go above and beyond in what to them they think are clever unobtrusive ways to be around that person. It can even lead to them briefly becoming a little stalkerish. It is closely related to unobtanium and is confused for it regularly. If it’s presence is detected or suspected the person who wants to be liked by the other person needs to become unobtanium and distant and even pretend to start putting on their own running shoes.
