The really cool thing about building your own boat is you get to decide how and where everything goes and what you will have on board your boat, the worst thing about building your own boat is deciding how and where everything goes and what you have on board your boat. I hate to think about the really huge amount of hours I spent just looking and thinking about where things should go and how i would build the boat. around 500 of 2500 hours to build these boats is consumed in just staring and thinking time…. or research as you look at what other people have done. It gets even more complex when you think that you will farm things out only to find out that to get that made will cost you around 6000, so you decide that you can learn to bend, tig weld and polish up your own bow rails, stanchions and other stainless fittings. It’s really not that hard if your motivated and in the end only costs you time and around 800 in materials with a scratch tig welder. My family soon learnt that when dad suggested we get out of the house on the weekend it meant wandering up and down one of the local marinas looking at catamarans.
