Things that interest me

Theology

What is the meaning of life, are we random bits of atoms or is there a creator. For me I have seen to much evidence of Gods design to deny his existence, I have had several supernatural things happen to me. I do love to see the little surprises that he has for me and I enjoy it when he shows me something about himself. To have God step out of heaven and communicate with you is an experience that can never be taken away. To know that he is in control of all of my tomorrows and that were I to die I step out of this life and into the next with him removes the anxiety that i see so many live with.

Underwater Hockey

Excercise is one of the single most important determiners of longevity and health in old age, unfortunately sometimes it also not that much fun, running gets you hot and sweaty and tired, swimming is watching endless numbers of pool tiles flow under you whilst gym is struggle and sore muscles. Enter stage right sport, I play underwater hockey which is the perfect tropical sport as it involves sweat free cardio. it doesn’t interfere with my weekend as it happens mid week and is the perfect competitive social outlet after a hard day at work.

Spearfishing

There is something about the ocean that speaks to my soul, I love to be on the water, in the water and under the water. the picture below is 4 of the 5 species of tropical crayfish that can be harvested in NQ. I love introducing people to my passions and always have fun underwater, I have managed to mostly instil a similar love with my family with my wife and 3 kids all happy to jump in the water for a snorkel with a spear gun. I always see something i have never seen before and consider myself to be an underwater tourist

Hunting

There is something raw and real in hunting, Identifying and finding that thing that you are going to eat and then selectively harvesting it, preparing it and eating it are all part of the journey of life that I have brought my children along on.

Adventure

I love adventure, tell me we are panning for gold, digging up topaz, 4 wheel driving, diving, kite surfing, jumping out of an air plane, camping, riding horses, hunting, traveling somewhere in Aus, going overseas, sailing a boat, spearfishing, fishing, drfiting down a river on an airbed, finding a waterfall I am there with you 100 percent…

Freediving

I pretty much do this as cross-training for the other 2 sports I enjoy Underwater hockey and spearfishing as I want to be as safe as possible. My first static breath hold was 5:23 whilst my second one was 6:02, I have dived over 30m and regularly head up to lake Eacham to check out the little rowboat that sits at 24-26m. I tend to tap out preferring the comfort of breathing to max efforts. Ant Judge runs a fantastic session on Tuesday nights at the Woree pool from 6pm onwards.

Family

the greatest adventure of my life was choosing a wife and having 3 beautiful children with her, to tell the truth I should have had 3 more

Sailing

Something that I love but have never gotten enough of is sailing, I loved it as a kid, I loved it when I sailed from NZ to Aus. I loved it when I had a Hobie 16…

Boat building

I have built 3 large boats an easy 37 sailing cat extended to 40 ft, a lizard 8.5 m powercat, and a murray isles 6m powercat, as well as a few dinghy’s

Fourwheel driving

Being able to go where few people have been before is a pretty cool thing, My first teaching job I was based right at the top of Cape York and went exploring everywhere I could, we got stuck a few times but we learnt how to drive through water crossing rivers in flood, through mud, in sand and found may beautiful locations that people never find.

life

Life is an adventure to be lived, unfortunately most people do not read the instruction manual and therefore spend their lives in pursuit of emptiness. The Authors instructions where to “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” if this text does not embody adventure i don’t know what does.

Camping

Packing a tent or swag and heading off somewhere is an adventure in itself, somehow food tastes better life is less frantic and there is always something to do, this sadly is something that i did not do enough of…

Horseriding

I still have a western saddle and bridle and for about 4 years passionately loved hopping on the back of a horse and doing the man from snowy river stuff.
