Labour to Liberal to One nation…

Politics to me used to seem relatively simple the liberals would run the country as a business and make a bunch of money, then labour would get in and spend that money on social services, education health welfare etc. Traditionally as a teacher I’m a labour voter. I guess I’m one of the silent majority who just rocks up to cast my vote. In the last 10 or so years like a number of fellow teachers and nurses I have become extremely disillusioned by the labour party it feels like it has left its roots and now seems to be more like a dictatorship caring about issues that have little relevance to everyday life for the vast majority. As I talk to fellow teachers who were also traditional labour voters they have all moved away from the party. The Labour party seem to have left their roots of what they used to stand for and now seem to be becoming more like the greens party with a major component of control freak added in for good measure.

We are a fully vaccinated family however I have watched the freedoms of the people being eroded over the last year(who would want to live in Victoria???) to the point where my wife and 2 children have been forced to choose between the nursing career they chose and getting a vaccination that is still in the trial phase and in no way seems effective against the disease it is supposed to prevent. Their jobs as nurses are at risk due to the hysteria around a virus that harms less people than the flu. Mates who are doctors and paramedics have also been stood down and now I am being threatened and told that unless I am vaccinated I will be stood down from a 22 yr career in education. A vaccination that in no way stops me from catching the disease or passing it on. A vaccination which has shifting goal posts, first you needed one then 2 now a booster and then potentially ongoing boosters that is experimental and will require numerous booster shots and all to protect me from a disease that has a very small percentage of harming me or those around me. A vaccination that has injured 3 friends giving them serious heart conditions….If Covid was Ebola I might understand but a virus that most people who catch don’t even know they have it????

I am like many others so disillusioned with the direction that Australian politics is heading, the liberals seem to be similar to the old labour party whilst labour is more like the Greens everyday. Once upon a time if people didn’t want to be protected from the diseases like the measles they were “allowed” to take their chances. Now freedom of choice means get injected or lose your job, lose access to society. China has a social ranking system where access to freedom is purchased through conformity, it seems we are not far off this in Australia now. Where do people like me fit now do we join One nation or the united party as these seem to espouse ”some” of the values I hold dear…
